He closed the patio door as he walked outside. The night air was cool, dense, and dirty. He walked up to the railing of the second floor patio and climbed over it and jumped down to grass below. He landed feet first, knees bent, and a slight pain surged through his legs from the impact A little agonizing, but a hell of a lot less painful than walking down the stairs and risk getting yelled at by the manager about disturbing the peace, or how roaming about at night is what‘s keeping him from paying the rent, or some other such nonsense.
